Yo Sushi

Yesterday Madeline, Heidi, Mike, & I ate at Yo Sushi [similarly named like E.Lansing's Sushi Ya]. The fun thing about the place is the sushi is on a conveyor belt [not unlike boat sushi]! I felt like a goober having to stand perched over Heidi deciding which platters I wanted to grab... I think other people in the restaurant thought I was too. Anyhow, this is us before we left- yea, we're all film students.

Two weeks down

I feel I should update this since I've been here for two weeks. Though, I'm not sure that anyone is following this endeavor anyhow & I rely more on paper and pen and postcards and Flickr.

Some fun things that come to mind include going to see Andrew Bird open for Joan as Police Woman (11 July). It was his birthday as well. Madeline, Heidi, & I bought him a cake from our beloved grocery store Mark & Spencer. We left the cake back stage for him before the show because we couldn't take it into the venue. I'm quiet sure he received it, however, he has failed to email a response to us about if he enjoyed the cake at all! Oh well, that's Mr. Bird.

While at the show I chatted with a British girl next to me. She had apparently studied film in uni. but is now running her own independent tea company. It's called Leaf. I think it's really wonderful because a) I love tea & b) I love the idea of your own business combined with an awesome product, graphic design, fair trade, creative control, ect. I think I will try to buy some tea from Leaf before I leave. Gotta support indie business. I'm always on the lookout for future collaborations I can lend my 'skills' to.

Friday, Madeline & I ventured to Borough Market, which is absolutely a wonderful place. See below::
I had no idea going in, but everything there tasted a thousand times better than everything else I've ever had. For example, this soft mozzarella ball we bought. Best mozzarella in the world. Even the sandwich I bought that looked normal & averagely delicious- was amazing. So we are pretty much in love with this market. I want to work in one, get discounts & learn about food and its economy. I kind of hope that our documentary ends up with some really interesting stuff about this whole fascination of mine.

After we bought everything, Heidi, Madeline, & I got to enjoy the "fruits" of our labor by having a picnic out in one of the close by parks. There were lots of other people with the same idea, very pleasant. There was even an elder man doing tai chi in the park.

Anyhow, the rest of this week brings a day trip tomorrow/Sunday to Brighton, England. We are all set for leisurely window shopping and then flopping down on the beach to do absolutely nothing. It'll be Heidi's first sighting of an ocean, quiet the adventure. Monday is a showing of Salvidor Dali's films at the Tate Modern!!! I am very excited for this too. I love avant garde cinema, I love the theory & philosophies it explores. Dorky, I know. Also, Dali's imagery is sure to be brilliant, no surprise. Tuesday I think our class has a BBC studio tour, but I'm not quiet sure. Wednesday is a visit to the Institute of Contemporary Arts. And then Thursday night Mad., Heid., & I leave for a weekend in Paris!! Being able to travel & move around so easily from sections of London, to cities of England, to different countries is really cool. I'm really glad for the chance to do all of this.
Here are some fotos to end on::

day one

Hi Family & Friends,
I've been in London for two long days. Its been lots of walking, rain, & suitcases. I arrived July 1st at Gatewick and rode over to my dorm the next morning in downtown London. It's much chiller than I anticipated (had to buy a scarf & am on the look out for super cheap jackets). All the locals are still wearing fall coats and boots. Everything is stylish.
At the top is a family foto taken June 30th, right before I left for the airport. It's gettin' pretty late over here now since I have to start waking up at 8am. More tomorrow probably
.

At the terminal, there are rocks by the fake trees that everyone writes on. Here's my contribution.
